Pink dahlias held in hand

Specialty cut flowers, grown for florists and designers from Chicago to Champaign.

A small farm with a careful list

Songwood is a specialty cut flower farm in Watseka, Illinois — 90 minutes south of Chicago.

We grow varieties that bring something distinctive to a designer's bench, grown locally without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers, hand-harvested into the cool of the morning, and conditioned for the longest possible vase life.

We don't use floral foam and we always work with the season.

This page is a short introduction to what we grow and how we work with the people who buy from us. If we've already met, thank you for coming back to read more.

Dahlias

The heart of our late summer and the largest planting on the farm. We have over forty named varieties for 2026 — dinnerplates, balls, decorative, and waterlilies — chosen for color, vase life, and the way they read in a designer's hands.

Variety list available on request.

Lisianthus

The high-summer headliner. Rose-form blooms with stem length and vase life that holds up to the hottest event work. Mariachi Pure White for clean architectural arrangements; Voyage Champagne and Celeb Beige Neo for the soft, antique palette designers reach for; Rosita Pink Picotee when a bouquet needs a focal point with edge.

Handful of Queen Lime Zinnias
Zinderella White Zinnias

Zinnias and Sunflowers

The summer staples, grown in palettes built for designers rather than supermarkets. Queeny series zinnias in their signature antique tones — lime with blush, lemon peach, red lime — plus creamy Linen and the scabiosa-form Zinderella Peach. ProCut sunflowers from cream to chocolate, pollenless and ready for event work.

Specialty Cuts

The textural pieces that make designer work distinctive. Echinacea cones, feverfew clusters, yarrow umbels. Scabiosa for movement, strawflower and statice for form that lasts. Heirloom chrysanthemums in autumn — quill-petaled, spider-form, the kind that look nothing like the mums at the grocery store.

Foliage & Herbs

The supporting cast that finishes a designer's work. Baby's breath, basil grown for fragrance and form, and the seasonal greens and herbs that round out an arrangement.
